The recloser relay (or automatic recloser circuit or automatic recloser) is an electrical device and a precision switch with high reliability.

The recloser is equipped with smart and electronic sensors that are specifically designed to protect the power grid and consumers. This protective device automatically isolates the fault and restores it when the fault is fixed.

To reduce the number of subscribers out of service under fault conditions, reclosers are coordinated with downstream fuses and upstream substation circuit breakers. For example, suppose a tree branch falls on a single-phase line in a residential complex. Without a recloser relay between the fuse and Post circuit breaker, the entire feeder is affected. If there is a recloser in the circuit, only the downstream part of the feeder is affected. If there is a recloser in the circuit, only the downstream part of the feeder is affected. After reclosing, if the fault is still present and the fuse has not blown during the last operation, the recloser will not operate for a short time, giving the fuse time to disconnect only the faulted single-phase line. If for some reason this does not happen, the recloser will open and lock a third time.

At this stage, the wireman should be sent to the location to check the problem and manually reclose the recloser. The recloser relay has the ability to close at least 3 times and the ability to disconnect 4 times before locking.

The closing time is adjustable.
